Christmas break, no class!

I forgot to hand out a note last Saturday. Showed as below:

Dear Parents and Guardians, We will be having a Chinese New Years Assembly on January 17, 2009. The yearbook committee will be organizing a silent auction for this assembly. If you are interested you can donate some items for this activity. Anything would be good. The committee will decide a reasonable base price for each item that you have donated. All money raised will be going to the 2008-2009 yearbook. Please bring in the items by January 10, 2009. This is a great way to get rid of the old items in your homes! Week 13 (2008/12/13)

Hey! did you notice that? It's December the 13th and also the 13th week for our class! What a coincidence!

We did some review before the test. Some kids counldn't wait and kept asking to do the test. Anyhow, I hope everybody did well.

After test, it was time for relaxation. We read a monkey rhyme and sang songs. I handed out the "surprise" that I promised last week.

Midterm Test

We are going to have a midterm test on this Saturday.
Test coverage:

• Text Book 1 Lesson 1 to 6
  (中文修订版第1册 第1课 ~ 第6课)
• HanYu PinYin Book Lesson 1 to 8
  (汉语拼音 第1课 ~ 第8课)

The style will be pretty much the same as the first test.
You will be fine if you paid attention in class!

Please bring pencils and crayons ( or markers) for the test. ( I will prepare some crayons.)
Don't forget to write both your Chinese and English names on your test!

I will also collect both your homework book A and B. Please write down your name on the covers before you hand them in.

Week 12 (2008/12/06)

There was only one hour for class today. We learned some words about colors. Then we went to celebrate Christmas in the gym.

There were big brothers and sisters singing songs. We got some candy canes. Some kids were upset because they didn't bring money for the activities. Unfortunately, I didn't have any money with me either! I will remember to bring some next time.

I hope everybody had fun at the Christmas assembly!

Christmas Assembly

We are going to have a Christmas assembly this weekend.

There are activities for families.
Please come join us in the gym at 10:30am this Saturday!

PS. The class starts at 9:00am as usual and we won't have "snack time" this week!

Week 11 (2008/11/29)

We played a game when the bell rang. The final winner carried the flag and led us to the classroom.

Everybody arrived before the end of the game time, so we started our class without disturbing. Way to go kiddoes!

I made new name tags with protection. I hope they will last longer.
One of our homework was to say "我爱你!" ("wo ai ni" I love you!) to mom. You will get a red heart sticker if you do that every week!

We didn't have treats because some kids didn't behave. There was trash on the ground. Thanks for those who helped to pick them up before we left.

Early Birds Wanted!

We were supposed to play a game the first thing in the morning last week. Too bad it had to be canceled because not many students were there.

I know it is hard to get up so early in such cold morning especially on weekends.

We will try again this week.

Week 10 (2008/11/22)

The weather didn't look so good this morning, But it's not bad enough to call it a "Snow Day"!

We learned some big words about seasons. Everybody paid good attention to the writing. Good job!

We also made "春聯" ( "chun lian" Chinese New Year Banners). We will display our works to the parents when we celebrate Chinese New Year!

Week 9 (2008/11/08)

It is very cheerful to see those little early birds in the morning. It's getting harder to get up when the weather is turning colder and colder, isn't it?

There was a little bit chaos when someone kept coming in the classroom. Anyhow! We finally settled down before 9:30 and began our class.

Our writing is getting better. We have more concept about PinYin.
Way to go!

Our Grade 12 students will have a fundraising this Saturday.

They will lead younger kids to "trick or treating" and there will be some activities during recess.

Please have your kid dress up and bring some money if they want to join the activities.

Week 7 (2008/10/25)

We had our seats arranged today. The seats will be rotated every week.

The test results were given back and most of us did a great job. It is OK if you didn't do well on your test. All you have to do is pay more attention when you are in class and do your homework every week.

We had our snack time after recess. Every one had enough time to go out and play and use the washroom.

Dear parents of class MG1

As the school policy: No student is allowed to be in the classroom before 9:00. Please send your kid to line up in the gym. I will bring them in when class starts.

Let your kid bring some snacks and drinks if she/he demands. I will also prepare some treats occasionally. Please let me know if there are any concerns.

I will stay in the classroom until 12:00. Please feel free to discuss with me if you have any questions. Please do not interrupt the class.

Week 6 (2008/10/18)

We had a test today!

Before the test, we did some review. I think that really helped because most of the students did a great job on their test!

There was no one went to washroom except of emergency.
With so many achievements, we had some treats before we went home.

Rules of the classroom

There are rules for our classroom:


Rule #1: Don't touch anything that does not belong to you.

• We are borrowing the classroom from St. Catherine. It will be appreciated if we don't touch their stuff.

Rule #2: Go to the washroom during recess time.

• You are big kids now. IF you really have to go, Please raise your hand and say:
  "老师,我要上厕所"
  ( lao shi wo yao shang ce suo)
  (Teacher, I want to go to the washroom.)
  
  Do that only when it's emergency and only the person who raises the hand can go. Come back as soon as possible.
  

Rule #3: Eat and drink your snack only in the classroom.

• It's St. Catherine's policy not to eat outside the classroom. Don't bring your food to the playground and don't leave anything behind you!

There are only 3 easy rules to follow. So far we have done pretty well on rule #1 and # 3.
We still have to work on rule #2. It's not nice to let everybody waiting for you and you are playing in the washroom during class. We've been practicing the phrase: "老师,我要上厕所" ( lao shi wo yao shang ce suo) and please use it when it's needed.

Week 5 (2008/10/04)

We are here to learn Mandarin!

We are here to learn how to
listen, speak, read, and write Chinese!
听(ting), 说(shuo), 读(du), 写(xie), 中文(zhong wen)!

We put away our pencils, crayons, markers and everybody wrote big, invisible words in the air!
Following the teacher, we learned how to write the word and pronounce it correctly.

Instead of writing in the class and not paying attention to the teacher, we save the writing for homework!

Once again, there are quite a bit... You don't have to finish it. Just do as much as you can but no more than what was assigned.
